Keeping up to-date with changing federal, state and local filing requirements is a never-ending job. The agencies are constantly changing electronic and paper forms, issuing new guidelines, and finding new issues to address.
In order to manage all of this, we are constantly working to enhance our communications with the filing agencies. When available, we ask to be placed on mailing lists and e-mail lists. When these don't exist, we make periodic calls to maintain relationships and seek information about upcoming changes.
When we are notified of a needed update, our web-based nature makes it extremely easy to update our software. Unlike traditional software, where everything gets packed into one large program, web-development works with small easily manageable and updated pages. This environment allows us to quickly make changes and quickly test them. Most importantly, after programming changes, we can generally deploy them to all our clients in literally seconds.
Recently the FEC released versions 5.3 of the electronic filing specification. Because of these methods, we had BackOffice upgraded to meet the new specification on the first day the new format was supported.
Unfortunately, not all agencies are as communicative as the FEC, nor are all needed changes as publicly announced as changes in the electronic filing format. Many of the changes we make in our government reporting tools are directly a result of feedback from your experiences.
Often the first we hear about a new interpretation of a rule comes when one of our clients receives a "request for additional information" from the agency. By sharing these with our office as soon as you receive them, we'll be able to rapidly assist you in correcting mistakes you might have made or make any necessary changes to our software.
So please, keep sending us whatever information you receive from your filing agency about changing rules and requirements and we'll keep updating BackOffice to better serve your needs.

Tommy Tutone made it easy for the whole world to remember Jenny's number -- too bad he didn't work for the FEC. With so many numbers to cram into your brain, what's one more? We say it's one more too many! That's why we have the FEC ID # lookup.
Need the FEC ID number for that committee or candidate? It's easy!
- Click on Help and select FEC ID # Lookup.
- You can search by committee name or candidate name. Fill in the appropriate field.
- Click Search.
You should see a list of all the committees or candidates with that name. Now you can add the FEC ID number to organization and individual records without the hassle of calling around trying to find their number.
